'Draw Something' is a modern-day Pictionary

It's a virtual Pictionary of sorts, except that people draw with their fingertips, collect virtual coins with the goal of adding more colors to draw with, view stats such as average guessing speed, longest guessing streak and top colors used, and even watch their drawings in replay mode (always kind of magical).

My 5-year-old son Jack uses this app all the time. A lot of the kids in my family do. Recently, he sat down to draw a picture for his 7-year-old cousin Nate in North Carolina. It's a great way for the too-young-for-Facebook-set to stay connected. The app asks you to draw one of three word options listed by level of difficulty - easy, medium, and hard. Jack's choices this time were the word "black" (easy), "keg" (medium), or "wedgie" (hard).

He chose wedgie, but turned to us and said, "Isn't a wedgie a big wig?" We had a laugh over that one. This brings up a good point, though. For smaller children, parents may need to assist with word comprehension. After my husband thoroughly (and with much enjoyment) explained what a wedgie was, my son eagerly got to work drawing it. After sending it, he smiled thinking of his cousin having to guess such a fun word. Now he is waiting for his cousin to respond.

People can message each other through the app to say hello or add hints about the drawings. If you are stumped by a difficult word, you can exchange it for a new one by exploding it with a bomb. And the app connects you to drawing partners through Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, by username, or by choosing a random match.

This app encourages creativity and keeps family members and friends connected in a fun way.
