MicroStrategy-Business Objects suit ends

MCLEAN, Va. --MicroStrategy Inc., a business intelligence software company, said Thursday an appellate court affirmed the dismissal of the remaining claim in a five-year-old patent infringement suit brought by French software company Business Objects SA.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld a 2005 decision from a federal district court in San Francisco.

Business Objects filed the patent suit in 2001. In August 2003, a lower court dismissed its claims, but an appeals court found that ruling incorrect. In 2005, the Federal Circuit appeals court threw out all but one claim, which it resolved today.

Shares of MicroStrategy rose $1.91, or 2 percent, to close at $95.75 on the Nasdaq. Business Objects' stock fell $1.14, or 3.5 percent, to end at $31.53, also on the Nasdaq.
