MERRIMACK, N.H.—PC Connection Inc. said Thursday that its first-quarter profit rose 41 percent, as rising sales in several categories -- including software and video, imaging and sound -- more than offset a decline in notebook and PDA sales.
The technology products and services marketer earned $4.8 million, or 18 cents per share, for the quarter that ended March 31, compared with $3.4 million, or 13 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.
Revenue rose to $423.7 million from $398.2 million.
PC Connection said its video, imaging and sound sales rose 29.5 percent to $62.3 million, while software sales rose 16.3 percent to $56.1 million and desktops and servers sales rose 1.5 percent to $58.4 million.
Notebook and PDA sales fell 13 percent to $64.1 million.
By business segment, sales in the company's PC Connection Sales Corp. unit, which serves small and medium-sized businesses, rose 2.7 percent to $240.1 million.
Revenue for its large-account unit, MoreDirect, rose 6.2 percent to $117.2 million, due mostly to the acquisition of new enterprise customers and a larger share of current customers' business.
Sales in the GovConnection unit, which serves government and education customers, rose 23.1 percent to $66.4 million, helped by federal contract sales.![]()
