MARLBOROUGH - 3Com Corp. reported a profit for its fiscal second quarter yesterday, reversing a year-ago loss and beating Wall Street estimates.

The company, which makes computer networking gear, said earnings came to $12.9 million, or 3 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $35.6 million, or 9 cents per share, in the same quarter a year ago. Excluding one-time expenses, 3Com said it would have earned $46.9 million, or 12 cents per share.
