Citing procedural reasons, a US District Court judge rejected GateHouse Media Inc.'s request for a temporary restraining order to prevent Boston.com's community websites from linking to GateHouse newspaper stories, according to a record of the hearing released yesterday.

On Monday, GateHouse, which publishes 125 papers in Massachusetts, sued The New York Times Co. - which owns the Globe and Boston.com - complaining it violated copyright laws by routinely posting the headlines and first sentences from GateHouse stories, along with hyperlinks to full text. But Judge William G. Young said the court would consider granting an injunction after a jury trial, scheduled to begin Jan. 5.
