Markey says climate bill to add jobs
US Representative Edward J. Markey said federal energy and climate legislation he coauthored could bring 150,000 jobs and billions of dollars to Massachusetts if enacted. The legislation seeks to create national guidelines that would spur the use of renewable energy and curb greenhouse gas emissions, while also adding "green" jobs.
Speaking yesterday at a Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce luncheon, the Malden Democrat said his climate legislation could benefit Massachusetts companies like Evergreen Solar, which makes solar panels, and A123Systems, which manufactures lithium-ion batteries
"America's economy is in a David Ortiz-like slump," Markey said, referring to the Boston Red Sox designated hitter. "But I have faith that David Ortiz and America will be hitting home runs again soon." ![]()
