Mass High Tech, a paper that covers regional technology news, will go from a weekly to a biweekly publication in September. As a result, the paper laid off four employees yesterday, according to publisher Michael Olivieri, who also oversees sister publication the Boston Business Journal and the two papers' combined staff of 50.

"When you go to every other week, you have less labor requirements to produce two papers a month versus four papers a month," he said.

As part of the move, Mass High Tech will be redesigned and its website expanded, with more shared content from the Boston Business Journal. Olivieri said the publications will share a team of tech and business reporters. Mass High Tech will go from 24 pages each week to 32 pages every two weeks, he said.

"It's part of a longer term business strategy with Mass High Tech that we set out on a year ago," Olivieri said. "The economy may have accelerated this."
