BEDFORD - IRobot Corp., which makes military robots and home-cleaning robots such as the Roomba, has added Paul Sagan, chief executive of Akamai Technologies Inc., to its board.

That increases the number of iRobot board members to 10 from nine, the company said in documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Sagan will be awarded a stock-option grant to purchase 40,000 shares. Sagan, 50, has been chief executive of the Cambridge Web content delivery technology provider since 2005. He has served as Akamai’s president since 1999.

Sagan has been an adviser to the World Economic Forum and has worked as an executive for Time Warner Cable, Time Inc., and CBS Inc. Sagan also serves on the board of EMC Corp.
