Angry Birds creator raises $42m
NEW YORK — Rovio, the creator of the wildly popular Angry Birds games for the iPhone, Android phones, and other gadgets, said yesterday that it has raised $42 million from investors including the venture capital firm Accel Partners.
Accel is known for funding such companies as Facebook and daily deals site Groupon.
Atomico Ventures, the venture capital firm created by Skype cofounder Niklas Zennstrom, is the other coleader of the funding round. Super angel fund Felicis Ventures also participated, Rovio said.
Rovio, which is based in Espoo, Finland, plans to use the money to expand its reach internationally and across new gaming platforms beyond mobile phones.
Angry Birds is played by 40 million monthly users.![]()
