Makers of lab instruments, including Waltham-based PerkinElmer Inc. , sank after Illumina Inc. cut its forecast because of concerns that research funding will shrink. Customers delayed orders in the third quarter because of “uncertainty’’ surrounding funding the US and Europe. Illumina expects revenue of about $235 million, missing analysts’ estimates of $278 million. Thermo Fisher Scientific , also of Waltham, closed at $50.49, down $3.18, or nearly 6 percent. Waters Corp. , of Milford, closed at $72.78, down $6.32, or nearly 8 percent.![]()
