What is the iPad, and what does it do?
It connects to the Web wirelessly
Unlike most laptops, which in addition to WiFi cards have a hardwired "ethernet" port to connect to the Internet with a wire, the iPad lacks such a port, relying solely on access to a WiFi signal (or cellular signal, for 3G-enabled models) to connect to the Web. All models also have Bluetooth capability built in.
