Nixdorff buys MoGo mobile product line, launches ID8-Mobile

Stuart Nixdorff tells me today that he's has acquired the MoGo product line of mobile phone peripherals including a nifty Bluetooth earpiece that fits elegantly onto the back of an iPhone or BlackBerry from Newton Peripherals, the Natick-based company that created them. The new company will be called ID8-Mobile, though Nixdorff, until recently an exec at Newton Peripherals and its parent company Manifold Products, says he's not yet sure where it will be based, as he's hunting for office space.

Nixdorff wouldn't name any of the other investors who are involved with the creation of the new company, but he said that it was a clean deal neither Newton nor Manifold holds any equity in ID8. The spin-out was finalized last Friday.

The company will continue using the MoGo brand name, and Nixdorff says he's talking to other small developers of mobile phone accessories about selling their products under the ID8 umbrella. "There are a number of really cool mobile-focused companies in the area," he says. "And it's challenging to get into the consumer market. The stuff we're most interested in deals with the way you touch and talk and interact with mobile devices."

Nixdorff says he's bringing a handful of engineers and designers who'd formerly been at Newton Peripherals to ID8, and that he may look to raise additional funding for the company soon.

I wrote about Nixdorff and the MoGo products back in February, when he was suggesting that they were looking for a sugar daddy to acquire the product line.
