Raytheon Co. won a $42.7 million contract to provide the US Army with 335 high powered Excalibur artillery shells during the current fiscal year.

The heavy artillery is accurate from a distance of about 15 feet and can destroy small armored vehicles and penetrate concrete structures, detonate itself once inside, "causing impressive damage" to simulated targets in the building, according to Raytheon. Excalibur artillery is made jointly by the Waltham company and BAE Systems Bofors of Sweden.
