A licking even a dog would like
Mix peanut butter, honey, sorbet, and concentrated syrup, and what do you get? At J.P. Licks, it's a summertime treat for the canine in your life.
The ice cream chain is now making ice cream for dogs. Two-and-a-half bucks gets your four-legged best friend a five-ounce bowl of the peanut butter flavored creamy cool, with two doggie biscuits on the side. Some of J.P. Licks' seven stores already have sold out of their first batch and are waiting for more, said director of operations Kimberly Sawchuk for the chain, which is based in Jamaica Plain.
J.P. Licks' executives started thinking about how to concoct doggie ice cream as they watched customers over the years slip their dogs some of what they were eating. They even consulted veterinarians for advice because like people, some dogs are lactose intolerant. They call their creation "Cow Paws."
And there was one final detail: the ice cream had to be kosher, so it could fit in with the rest of J.P. Licks' menu.
