Commerce Insurance Co. of Webster is offering to help people who have its homeowners coverage in the event they are the victims of identity theft.

Customers of Commerce with homeowners policies will have access to a personal assistant who will walk them through tasks like placing credit file fraud alerts with the three major credit bureaus and filing a fraud victim affidavit with the Federal Trade Commission. They will also get a full year of credit and fraud monitoring service through Identity Theft 911 LLC, a West Bend, Wis., company that will provide the identity theft help under a partnership with Commerce.

The services are free to the insurance company's homeowners policyholders who also have its "advantage endorsement" on their policies. That service, which was already offered as an add-on to the policies, costs $37 a year.
