Aurora Imaging to sell breast imaging system in China
Aurora Imaging Technology Inc., a private North Andover company focused on fighting breast cancer, said today it has gotten approval to sell its 1.5T Dedicated Breast MRI System in China.
Aurora said its approval is from the State Food and Drug Administration of the People's Republic of China.
Aurora claims its system is the only fully integrated MRI system designed specifically and exclusively to image the breast.
Aurora cited estimates that the Chinese medical-device market has a value of close to $3.5 billion; only the US and European Union medical-device markets are larger.
"With a higher incidence of dense breast tissue in Asian populations, which can make mammography less conclusive, we believe that the Aurora System will be tremendously valuable to the improvement of breast cancer care in the Chinese population," Aurora chief executive Olivia Ho Cheng said in a statement.
