Baby boomers are on pace to give $100 billion to charity in 2006, compared with an estimated $79 billion in 2005, according to a survey out today from the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund.

Boomers are making average total donations of $6,000 in 2006; that's 20 percent higher than the overall donor average of $5,000, the Boston fund said.

One cloud on the horizon: "Retirement funding concerns are seeping into the philanthropic mindset," the fund said.

The fund said the nationwide survey was conducted by Opinion Research Corp., which conducted online interviews between Sept. 27 and Oct. 4 with 1,015 individuals 25 or older.

The Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund is an independent public charity that was established by mutual funds giant Fidelity Investments.
