Carbonite Inc., a Boston provider of data backup for personal-computer users, said it has raised $3.5 million in additional funding in an investment round led by 3i, a London private equity firm.
The latest round brings the firm's total venture funding to $6 million, Carbonite said.
Carbonite said it will use the proceeds from the funding round for ongoing marketing programs and infrastructure development.
Digital camera sales are soaring, and downloading music onto computers has become increasingly popular, 3i noted in a statement, and Carbonite has a good business model for offering unlimited storage capacity for all these files at an affordable price.
