New England is no fun.

At least, that's one conclusion to be drawn from a ranking of the world's top-50 destinations for New Year's Eve celebrations, which includes not a single city in all of New England.

Compiled by Priceline.com Inc., the online travel service, the list was compiled by analyzing a sampling of more than 30,000 hotel room booking requests made by Priceline.com customers for the evening of December 31, 2006.

And while Boston may have been home to the original First Night, the citywide New Year's Eve celebration now replicated in scores of communities nationwide, the Hub is nowhere to be found in the listings, which names the Las Vegas Strip the most preferred New Year's Eve destination for the second year in a row.

Sunshine State destinations occupied 15 of the 50 rankings, giving Florida more slots than any other state. New York City took four spots, all within the top 10. The four Big Apple neighborhoods most in demand are SoHo/Financial District (2d), Upper Midtown/Central Park South (3d), Midtown West (5th), and Midtown East (7th).

Cities with traditional parades and New Year's Eve celebration sites -- such as Philadelphia (28th), with its Mummers Parade, and New Orleans (31st), with its French Quarter revelry -- also scored well. Cities in Hawaii made the rankings despite the lengthy travel required to get there; Maui appears on the list four times and Oahu is named once. International destinations include London (which made the list twice), Paris, and Sydney.
