Personal iPod viewer hits the shelves
Who's that celebrity lurking behind those sunglasses? Why, it's the gloriously talent-free Paris Hilton, accessorized not with mere eyewear, but with the myvu Made for iPod personal media viewer, a $299 product from MicroOptical Corp. of Westwood.
According to MicroOptical, myvu resembles a pair of sunglasses that allows iPod-toting wearers to view such things as downloaded movies; the viewing experience, the company claims, is comparable to watching a large-screen TV from six feet away.
For the first time in Boston, the myvu is now available exclusively at the Tweeter store at 350 Boylston St. in Boston; between 10 a..m. and 4 p.m. today, representatives of both Tweeter and MicroOptical will be on hand for demonstrations, MicroOptical said.
According to MicroOptical, some mobile viewing systems made by rivals produce such an "immersive" experience that users can lose touch with their surroundings, hardly an ideal scenario for someone commuting to work on the Red Line.
But with myvu, a T-rider will never have to worry about missing a stop. That's because the myvu is so small, lightweight, and well designed that users remain aware of their surroundings. The glasses "offers users situational awareness for on-the-go lifestyles," MicroOptical said.
