Dedham's board of selectmen has unanimously granted a cable franchise to Verizon Communications Inc., paving the way for the company's FiOS TV service to become available to roughly 9,000 households, Verizon said today.

FiOS TV is the company's new fiber optic TV service, which Verizon claims offers better quality video and more on-demand choices than other cable TV options.

Dedham is the 29th Massachusetts community where FiOS TV is or soon will be available, said Verizon, adding that the service is currently offered to more than 120,000 households in the Bay State.
