George Clooney's Academy Awards gift bag was one of the hottest items auctioned off last year by cMarket Inc., a Cambridge company that helps not-for-profit causes raise funds through online auctions.

Clooney's gift bag sold for $45,000, and it was part of an auction that benefitted the United Way, said the company, which today disclosed some of the hottest items it helped auction in 2006.

Clooney's gift bag easily trumped boots designed by actor Matthew McConaughey, which elicited a $9,728 bid in an auction that benefitted St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, cMarket said.

Other hot items included lunch with Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo and a customized Saturn SKY Roadster, cMarket said.
