Chocolate milk goes no fat
It may be a dairy company's holy grail - a chocolate milk with zero grams of fat - and now HP Hood has it.
According to Hood of Chelsea, an eight-ounce glass of its regular chocolate milk has nine grams of fat and 230 calories, compared with no fat and 160 calories for its new Simply Smart Chocolate Fat Free Milk.
Chocolate milk's demanding public, an audience that includes many children, now will determine whether Hood has managed to achieve those virtuous numbers without having sacrificed the creamy chocolate taste that connoisseurs crave.
Hood is so confident that consumers will be won over that it expects a half gallon of Simply Smart Chocolate Fat Free Milk to sell for about 20 cents more than a comparably sized Hood Premium Chocolate Milk, which generally retails from $2.99 to $3.49.
