Lycos brings content to mobile phones

Visitors to Lycos.com now have access to hundreds of mobile games, ringtones, and wallpapers.

Lycos of Waltham, a community destination for broadband entertainment content, said it has launched "Lycosmobile by PlayPhone" as an "online storefront" where consumers can purchase entertainment content for mobile phones.

Lycos is partnering with PlayPhone Inc., a California mobile-content company; as a result of this collaboration, PlayPhone is bringing its content to Lycos.com and mobile.lycos.com, allowing anyone with a mobile phone to download hundreds of mobile entertainment properties, the companies said.

"We are very focused on providing our community members with the most robust content offerings on the Web, including a top-rate mobile entertainment channel," Brian Kalinowski, Lycos chief operating officer, said in a statement.

Lycos is a subsidiary of Daum Communications Corp., an Internet portal and e-commerce destination in Korea.
