WiBlast Communications LLC is working with the Nantucket Police Department to provide secure mobile broadband access to police cruisers within its coverage area on the island.

WiBlast, a Nantucket wireless Internet service provider, said today it is rapidly expanding its areas of service coverage on the island to enable police cruisers to access secure police databases that were previously restricted to use in the police station.

Access will also allow officers to send from their cars to the station, eliminating the need to leave their assigned routes, the company said.

"Public safety departments are depending on high-speed data access to fulfill growing public safety demands," WiBlast cofounder Thor Storm said in a statement.
