Profit doubles at Parametric

Parametric Technology Corp. of Needham, which makes computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering software, said today its fiscal first-quarter earnings more than doubled, helped by strong revenue growth in both its license and services divisions.

Earnings for the three months ended Dec. 30 rose to $15.1 million, from $7.5 million during the same period last year.

Revenue increased 15 percent to $221.7 million from $192.5 million in the year-ago quarter.

Training and consulting service revenue rose 23 percent, license revenue increased 14 percent and maintenance revenue grew 12 percent. The company said strong sales of its Pro/ENGINEER 3-D product design software licenses, and recently acquired Mathcad and IsoDraw programs, helped boost quarterly results. (AP)
