Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. of Waltham has acquired a Swiss provider of scientific instruments.

Making instruments, equipment, and supplies for scientists and researchers is Thermo Fisher's business focus.

For an undisclosed price, Thermo Fisher said it has acquired SwissAnalytic Group AG, which owns Spectronex AG and Flux Instruments AG, which had combined annual revenues of $22 million.

Spectronex supplies mass spectrometry, chromatography, and surface science instrumentation while Flux makes liquid chromatography pumps and software.

"Flux Instruments is a strong complement to our expanding chromatography and life sciences mass spectrometry product lines," Thermo Fisher chief executive Marijn E. Dekkers said in a statement. "In addition, Spectronex enables Thermo Fisher to strengthen our footprint in Europe with direct sales channels and support, enhancing our ability to work closely with important customers in this area."
