Website for MDs gets $9.5m in funding
Sermo, the online doctors' community, has secured $9.5 million in funding.
The Cambridge-based website, which lets doctors aggregate observations from their daily practices, said today that it closed a Series B funding round led by SoftBank Capital, a venture capital firm with offices in Newton.
Proceeds will be used to further develop Sermo's nationwide community of nearly 6,000 doctors representing 30 specialties.
"Sermo's easy-to-use technology allows physicians to consult virtually with a broad range of practicing colleagues in a manner previously not possible," Steve Murray, a SoftBank Capital partner, said in a statement.
Sermo, which according to its website is Latin for conversation, plans to make money by selling the collective information generated by the site to hedge funds, government agencies, and industry analysts, but not to drug companies.
