Working with an MIT-trained rocket scientist, a New England firm unveiled a breakthrough that it claims will make sexy high-heels nearly as comfortable to wear as sensible shoes.

HBN Shoe LLC of Salem, N.H., markets products under the Insolia brand name, and HBN said today it has started supplying selected retailers with $9.99 weight-shifting inserts that are purported to be the last word in footwear comfort technology.

According to the company, high-heel shoes equipped with these Insolia inserts shift the wearer's body weight in a way that decreases "forefoot pressure, lessening the strain on the feet and legs."

HBN said the research team that helped develop the product included a rocket scientist with a degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a podiatrist.

"Now science has come to the sexy world of high heel shoes," HBN president Michael Backler said in a statement. "We have developed a 21st century scientific solution to the problem of high-heel pain and discomfort. Finally, women can feel comfortable all day long in any high heel of their choice."
