Fun Tech partners with DirecTV

Fun Technologies Inc. said today that its Newton-based Games division has partnered with DirecTV Group Inc. to develop games for a gaming channel.
A Canadian company specializing in online casual games, Fun Technologies said its SkillJam subsidiary in Newton has partnered with DirecTV of California to provide skill-based cash and prize tournaments in popular casual games to Game Lounge, a new gaming channel available exclusively on DirecTV.
SkillJam will develop customized versions of such online games as Free Cell, Solitaire, and Sudoku for Game Lounge, the companies said.
"We have long believed that our casual games are ideally suited for interactive television," Fun Technologies chief executive Lorne Abony said in a statement. "Playing games online has quickly become one of the most popular pastimes worldwide, and television represents an opportunity of enormous proportions for casual games."
