Mass. Citizens donates 52k hours in 2006
The parent of Citizens Bank said today its employees donated 52,200 volunteer hours to nonprofit organizations and initiatives in Massachusetts last year.
Based on hourly wages for employees, those volunteer hours saved local nonprofits $942,000, said Citizens Financial Group Inc., a $164 billion commercial bank holding company with headquarters in Providence.
The company's footprint extends to 13 states, and all told in 2006, Citizens said its employees donated 310,000 volunteer hours with an estimated value of $5.5 million.
"Citizens Bank is committed to making a real and lasting difference in the communities we serve," Robert E. Smyth, chairman and chief executive of Citizens Bank of Massachusetts, said in a statement.
Citizens also said it is launching a volunteer recognition program to celebrate employees who perform exemplary community service.
Citizens Financial Group is owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc.
