More cranberries for kitty

The versatile cranberry can sauce up a turkey dinner, tart up a bowl of bland oatmeal, and it can also be a key ingredient in some natural cat food recipes.

Wellness, a natural pet food brand marketed by Chelmsford pet food company Old Mother Hubbard, said today its Wellness Dietary Solutions Feline Dry Nutrition Line includes Wellness Complete Health, a new formula for cats that features the "Wellness Triple Cranberry System" to ensure that tabby is glowing with good health, thanks to fruit from the bogs.

Urinary tract problems are common with cats, and Wellness Complete Health provides three sources of cranberries - fresh cranberries, cranberry fiber, and cranberry extract - to prevent such problems, the company said; the product also includes Omega 6 and three fatty acids from salmon, olive oil, and flaxseed.

"We applied a laser focus to creating customized nutrition based on a cat's lifestyle," Wellness chief executive Jim Scott said in a statement. "And we deliberately selected exceptional real-food ingredients to help naturally solve this most challenging health problem for cats."
