The MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge is hosting a forum today that will focus on enabling commercial applications of synthetic biology.

Plans call for a presentation from John Danner, chief executive of Codon Devices, a Cambridge company that specializes in commercial applications of synthetic biology.

According to the forum, Codon's proprietary production platform is expected to enable large-scale biological research, engineered cells that produce novel pharmaceuticals, improved vaccines, agriculture products, and "biorefineries" for the production of industrial chemicals and energy.

Following Danner's presentation, a panel will discuss effective approaches to selling novel drug development technologies to big pharmaceutical companies, the forum said.

The event is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. at the Stata Center's Kirsch Auditorium at 32 Vassar St. in Cambridge.

The event is sponsored by Foley Hoag LLP, a law firm with offices in Boston.
