Verizon Communications Inc. said today that the Board of Selectmen in Wilmington has granted the company a cable license for its FiOS TV offering in that community.

That approval means that 6,500 households in Wilmington will have the option of subscribing to FiOS TV over Verizon's fiber-optic network, the company said.

According to Verizon, FiOS TV offers subscribers sharper pictures and better choices than other TV options.

The vote of the Wilmington board brings the total number of Massachusetts communities where FiOS TV is either already available or soon will be to 42, the company said.

Headquartered in New York, Verizon Communications delivers broadband and other wireline and wireless communications services.
