Two local firms are partnering to provide a mapping and informational tool for utility companies.

Trinity Technologies of Wellesley and MetaCarta Inc. of Cambridge said today they are forming a strategic partnership to create an integrated geographically-enabled content management solution for gas, electric, and water utilities.

MetaCarta provides users with map-driven geographic search, geographic referencing, and data visualization capabilities.

Trinity is a consulting firm for the energy, process, and financial services industries.

Utilities increasingly need to bring together traditional document management and geographic information systems.

As part of their strategic partnership, the two firms seek to use technology that combines traditional text or keyword search with powerful geographic search so information in a document-management system can be mapped, categorized, and searched according to geographic parameters, the companies said.
