David S. Ishihara, the federal security director at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, was appointed by the Massachusetts Port Authority board of directors this morning as its director of aviation operations, the number-two day-to-day official running Logan International Airport.

Ishihara was a former assistant manager of Portland International Jetport in Maine and a former aide to George N. Naccara, who is both the top Transportation Security Administration official at Logan and supervisor of the TSA throughout the Northeast.

"He knows the airport well, and he's going to be a great addition,'' Edward C. Freni, Massport aviation director, said in an interview. Ishihara holds a position that was held in the 1990s by Thomas J. Kinton Jr., who was later promoted to aviation director and last August executive director and chief executive of Massport.
