Northeastern University said today that its undergraduate business school was ranked 26th in an annual survey by BusinessWeek magazine, moving up 11 places from last year's ranking.

According to BusinessWeek's website, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology placed 6th on the list of top undergraduate business programs, and Boston College was 14th.

At the head of the list was the University of Pennsylvania.

Other area institutions that BusinessWeek cited for having strong undergraduate business programs included Bentley College (31), Babson College (33), Boston University (37), and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (58).

At Northeastern, administrators seemed ecstatic with the news.

"What does it take to be a leading business school?" Thomas E. Moore, dean of the College of Business Administration, said in a statement. "Great students, great faculty, and great programs."
