American Superconductor Corp. said today it has received another contract from a Chinese company to develop a wind-energy system.

American Superconductor, a Westborough company focused on energy technologies, said its Windtec subsidiary will develop a portfolio of 2.5 megawatt wind energy systems for Dongfang Steam Turbine Works Corp. of China.

American Superconductor described the agreement as a "multi-million-dollar" contract but did not elaborate further; it said the agreement was the third contract it had received from a Chinese company in the past several months.

"With its decades of leadership in the Chinese power market and its position as of China's largest producers of wind energy systems, we believe Dongfang Steam Turbine Works is strongly positioned for growth in the Chinese wind energy market," American Superconductor chief executive Greg Yurek said in a statement.
