Con Edison deploys Ambient tech
Ambient Corp. said today it will install its second generation of broadband-over-power-lines equipment on the underground electric system of Consolidated Edison Company of New York Inc.
Successful completion of the research-and-development demonstration will allow Con Edison to further evaluate Ambient's broadband-over-power-lines, or BPL, system, for monitoring the underground distribution system, said Ambient, which is headquartered in Newton.
Ambient said its BPL platform is designed to support many, if not all, of the sensoring, monitoring, and control applications that Con Edison may deploy to enhance its distribution system.
Potential applications include aggregation of meter reading, peak-load reductions, and stray voltage detection, Ambient said.
