KeySpan Corp. launched a new effort to help prevent climate change - an environmental initiative that has the additional benefit of helping its business.

As part of a campaign titled "Be Green, Win Green," the large distributor of natural gas in the Northeast is encouraging residents in the cities and towns in communities served by KeySpan in Massachusetts and New Hampshire to "help reduce the effects of global warming" by converting their home heating systems from oil to natural gas, which, the company noted, is "a cleaner burning fuel."

The campaign includes the "Be Green, Win Green" Sweepstakes with a grand prize of a full conversion from oil to natural gas and high-efficiency gas appliances worth $25,000, KeySpan said.

"As the KeySpan log states: 'Climate is Everything," Nick Stavropoulos, president of KeySpan Energy Delivery, noted in a statement. "Education will be a cornerstone of the 'Be Green, Win Green' effort to inform people about the impact that emissions from home heating fuel can have on the environment and to educate them to the benefits that natural gas provides as a clean, reliable, and domestically produced fuel source."
