NStar and Evergreen Solar Inc. today unveiled an alliance designed to promote solar power in Eastern Massachusetts.
NStar provides electricity in Boston and 80 suburbs; it’s also a provider of gas to 51 communities. Evergreen Solar, of Marlborough, makes solar panels.
The alliance will combine Evergreen’s technology and NStar’s expertise and customer relationships to promote cost-effective solar options for consumers, the companies said.
The alliance can ‘‘significantly accelerate closing the gap between solar and conventional energy costs,’’ Evergreen’s chief executive, Richard M. Feldt, said.
