Repligen licenses new treatment
Repligen Corp. said today it has licensed a potential treatment for a disorder called Friedreich's ataxia.
Repligen is a Waltham biopharmaceutical company focused on novel therapeutics for diseases that affect the central nervous system.
According to Repligen, Friedreich's ataxia is an inherited neurodegenerative disease in which low levels of the protein frataxin result in progressive damage to the nervous system and loss of muscle function.
Repligen said it has entered into an exclusive commercial license with the Scripps Research Institute for intellectual property covering compounds that may have utility in treating Friedreich's ataxia.
According to its web site, Scripps is a nonprofit biomedical science research organization with facilities in California.
Financial terms of the licensing agreement were not disclosed.
