Matritech Inc. said today that the city of San Francisco is using one of its products to screen firefighters for bladder cancer.
Matritech is a Newton developer of proteomics-based diagnostic products for the early detection of cancers, including those that affect the bladder, the breast, the prostate, and the colon.
According to Matritech, firefighters have increased risk for bladder cancer, and San Francisco is using Maritech's NMP22 BladderChek Test, a point-of-care urine test, in its screening program.
The San Francisco Firefighters Cancer Prevention Foundation is scheduled to release information about the bladder screening program at a press conference today, Matritech said.
