Shaw's Supermarkets Inc. said that starting tomorrow all of its stores will offer the full line of Newman's Own Organic pet food.

With headquarters in West Bridgewater, Shaw's said it will be the first supermarket chain in the region to do so.

The move comes as consumers worry about news of pets sickened and killed after eating tainted pet food.

"Pets are an important part of the family, and we recognize that," Shaw's president Carl Jablonski said in a statement. "We have put tremendous focus on carrying a wide variety of organic foods for our customers, and we're happy to add organic pet foods to the mix."

Shaw's, Osco pharmacies, and Star Market are a division of Supervalu Inc., a Minnesota food retailer and wholesaler.
