Suffolk Construction said it has been selected to provide preconstruction services for the $370 million reconstruction of the historic Filene's building in Boston's Downtown Crossing.

In addition to preconstruction services, Suffolk's team is currently underway on demolition within the existing buildings to "help maintain project momentum and allow construction to begin as soon as possible," the company said.

"This project represents an exciting challenge for our team," company chief executive John Fish said in a statement. "The complexities of the site along with the rich history of the existing buildings make it an ideal fit for our experienced preconstruction team."

Suffolk Constructions said it is working closely with the project's developers, Vornado Realty Trust and Gale International LLC, and with its architect, Elkus|Manfredi.
