Tufts Health Plan names new executive

Tufts Health Plan has named Thomas A. Croswell, a 30-year veteran of managed healthcare, as its new chief operating officer. Most recently, he served as senior vice president, medical management and specialty businesses, at CIGNA HealthCare.

Croswell, who starts at Tufts Health Plan on April 30, fills a long-standing vacancy. Tufts chief executive James Roosevelt Jr. has been running the company without a chief operating officer since he assumed the top position in June 2005.

Croswell will be responsible for the daily management of the company, the company said in a press release. Roosevelt will focus on the organization’s strategic direction and to ``more broadly engage with clients, providers, legislators, regulators and other key constituents,'' the company said.

Tufts Health Plan has 625,000 members.
