Zoll releases earnings, debuts new product
Zoll Medical Corp. today debuted a new product and said that second-quarter profit rose 52 percent on strong demand for its defibrillators and data-management products.
The Chelmsford company, which makes resuscitation devices and related software, reported record revenues of $68.3 million for the second quarter, up 20 percent from a year ago; net income was $3.2 million versus $2.1 million.
Diluted earnings per share were 15 cents, compared with 11 cents, the company said.
Meanwhile, Zoll unveiled a new model of the Zoll AutoPulse Non-Invasive Cardiac Support Pump, which, the company said, can document, store, and upload device and patient data.
In a statement, Zoll chief executive Richard A. Packer said the company may benefit in the coming months from problems at a rival, Medtronic Inc. of Minnesota.
"With the suspension of shipments by Medtronic's Physio Control division, our largest competitor, during the quarter, we are faced with a number of opportunities," he said.
