Procter & Gamble Co. said today it is adding new responsibilities to Chip V. Bergh, who oversees Boston shaving giant Gillette.

Bergh has been tapped as group president of global personal care and his new duties, starting July 1, include overseeing deodorants, male personal care, and personal cleansing.

Bergh is taking over these responsibilities from Mary Anne Pesce, 52, who is retiring later this year. Pesce worked for 26 years for Gillette and Cincinnati consumer products conglomerate P&G. Bergh will continue to be based in Boston.
