Critical Therapeutics Inc. said today that its sales force has gained access to a second drug product.

Headquartered in Lexington, Critical Therapeutics is developing and commercializing products for respiratory, inflammatory, and critical care diseases.

Critical Therapeutics said today that the Food and Drug Administration has approved a new drug application from Dey L.P. for a long-term, twice-a-day maintenance treatment of bronchoconstriction for emphysema and chronic bronchitis; the treatment is called Perforomist Inhalation Solution.

In March, Critical Therapeutics entered into an agreement with Dey, an affiliate of Merck KGaA, to help promote respiratory care products in the United States.

Critical Therapeutics chief executive Frank Thomas said today in a statement, "The approval of Perforomist Inhalation Solution enhances the prospective efficiency of our sales force by providing representatives with a second product that directly complements our respiratory franchise."
