EBTEC Corp. today unveiled the Surfi-Sculpt, an electron-beam process that can modify surface characteristics of metals in a way that could benefit the medical device industry, among other fields.

EBTEC is an Agawam company that focuses on specialties that include laser processing, electron-beam welding, and general machining.

The company said its new technology is integrated into the electron-beam process, giving it the ability to create precise, detailed protrusions and intrusions on any ferrous our non-ferrous metal.

"For precision and repeatability, we believe Surfi-Sculpt is a real breakthrough - opening the door to endless possibilities in the medical device arena, as well as within almost any field of manufacturing," company president John Leveille said in a statement.
